I was in the mood for some hot dogs and decided to revisit Wheatly’s. It’s located inside Social Tap Drinkery on the Wichita State campus. If you’ve never heard of them, it’s a concept focused on using quality ingredients like certified Angus beef, 100% hormone-free chicken, and gluten-free black bean burgers. Social Tap is also home to Sungrano Pizza who opened last year, but my male pregnancy cravings wanted hot dogs and I obliged.

Wheatly’s is accessible inside the Social Tap Drinkery space. Once inside Social Tap, you immediately turn to the south and you’ll find them. There’s also an entrance available out front that takes you right to the Wheatly’s.
Whealty’s offer an all-beef brisket blend hot dog. There’s also 18 toppers to choose from that are all free except for chili which is a dollar.
I asked for a chili dog, along with the closest thing to a Chicago dog they could whip up. They let me know they didn’t have a Chicago style relish but gave it their best shot.
It didn’t take long to get the hot dogs my cravings were asking for all day long. They were just what I needed. It had that backyard style appeal with a meatier flavor thanks in part to the brisket blend. The touch of the toasted bun was a beautiful inclusion to offer a slight crisp in each bite. I loved their take on the Chicago dog. It was definitely my favorite and certainly one of the better ones I’ve had around town; granted it is a city with limited options.
