Las Catrinas Mexican Restaurant Revisited

Las Catrinas

One of the most requested restaurants for a revisited review recently has been Las Catrinas Mexican Restaurant. The eatery is in a busy area of town on 2330 N. Maize Road, but kind of tucked away towards the back. It’s not the most visible place if you’re driving down Maize, but definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.

A small group of us dropped by over lunchtime for eats and drinks. Our afternoon started with complimentary chips and salsa. Nothing memorable here, but also something that had no problem polishing off. It was a fairly basic salsa that was very mild.

Everybody ordered a mix of enchilada meals, but I went with the chipotle pasta which was bow tie pasta with creamy guajillo sauce, bacon, onions, mushrooms, and Parmesan sauce. I added chicken, and it also came with a side house salad with jalapeno ranch dressing.

Here were some other dishes, mid-eating. One thing I did get a taste of was the beans. The only reason was because it was being raved about at the table. I gave it a whirl and was also impressed; it had a very smoky taste that was unlike any other beans I’ve had from a Mexican restaurant.

As for my chipotle pasta; excellent, excellent, excellent dish. It wasn’t something I’d expect to order at a Mexican restaurant, but they really nailed it here. The creamy guajillo sauce helped make this an outstanding dish. I loved the small yet flavorful kick of heat in the sauce.

Every bite made me want to put more in my mouth. Las Catrinas calls themselves a Tex-Mex restaurant in the description and this was, by far, one of the best dishes I’ve had from a Tex-Mex spot.

The service was also outstanding. I believe one lady was the only server throughout the day and she was everything you’d want from a server.

Here’s the menu:

  1. I love the fajita chicken burrito from Las Catrinas. Great flavor with grill onions and bell pepper. Tasty

  2. Late last year my family and I moved to the Wichita area from the Dallas TX area where good Tex-Mex is found on almost every street corner.
We had heard about Las Catrinas when we moved here, but it was closed for remodeling. In the meantime we tried a a bunch of other places, hoping to find our new “Tex-Mex Go To” in the Wichita area.
We were greatly rewarded for our wait. While thier menu is small, the quality of food and service are great. We have tried several things on the menu and love them all. I strongly recommend that you start your meal with their Guaomole …
    Buen Provecho!
