First Look at Blalock’s Seafood Restaurant

Blalock's Seafood Restaurant

Even before Wichita Fish Co. closed, it was public knowledge that the owner’s son was branching out on his own to start Blalock’s Seafood Restaurant. While the name is different, much of what you can expect at Wichita Fish Co. can be found at the new seafood restaurant at 803 N. West St.

The paper the menu is printed off has a Wichita Fish Company feel, as do the hours and phone number to the restaurant, which were carried over.  Upon arrival, I asked the lady at the counter what to order as it.  She recommended me the catfish and tilapia meals. I went with both.

It was all good and very reminiscent of Wichita Fish Co., perhaps because the sign out front even said, “Mom’s Original Recipe”.

If you’ve been to Wichita Fish Co., I’m uncertain if you’ll be able to tell the difference, and that could be a good or bad thing depending on whether you enjoyed the food.

I certainly did, and of the three, the catfish was my favorite. The breading on the catfish was phenomenal. I loved whatever seasoning they put on it. The catfish itself was a thick piece of fish and that was  delicious. At times, I doused it with hot sauce at the table to provide me some much-needed heat. But apart from that, the dish was fantastic.

The tilapia had a nice thin breading that was well-seasoned and really flavorful. It had a much thicker texture to it, but still just as flavorful as my previous dish.

It’s almost like Wichita Fish Co. never closed.

On that note, I need to train myself to show a little respect and call them by their actual name, Blalock Seafood Restaurant. Check em out.

Here’s the menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
