First Look at The Pit Stop Bar & Grill

There’s a new bar and grill that has taken over a space in southwest Wichita most recently occupied by Town & Country. The Pit Stop Bar & Grill is your new perfect “pit stop” on your way home from work, according to the restaurant’s tagline on Facebook.

We finally stopped by to visit the new spot.

When I was seated, I immediately got down to business and placed my order. The hot dogs were the talk of the new restaurant when it was announced they were opening.

I went with the Renegade Dog, which was also listed as a Chicago Dog. It came with mustard, relish, tomato wedge, dill pickle, onions, celery salt, sport pepper. It came with a side of tater tots.

The tater tots were excellent, very crispy, and fried to perfection. As for the Renegade Dog, they went a little heavy with the onions, which really overpowered the entire experience. Meanwhile, the hot dog itself was overcooked, wrinkled and shrunk a bit to make it look like a dinky hot dog.

Overall, not the best hot dog experience I’ve had. And for $10.25, I was hoping for something better. I hate to comment on price but if you compare hot dog prices around town, it’s definitely on the higher end, which I’m fine with IF it’s a worthwhile meal. This was not it.

Next up, I had the wings and fries. The steak fries were dry and could have used some seasoning.

As for the wings, I enjoyed the flavor of the sweet and spicy sauce but they used far too much sauce. Some bites of the wings and all I could taste was what felt like spoonfuls of sauce. And when I got down to the meat of the wings, it was very soft and soggy.

Two positive takeaways: the service was excellent, as were the tater tots.

The rest? Well, there’s definitely room for improvement, at least from my first visit.

Here’s the menu:

Happy Dining,
