Celebrating our daughter’s first day of school at Frost with the best ice cream I’ve ever had

Frost

Tuesday ended up turning out to be one of the most memorable days of the year for our family. Our daughter started the next chapter of her life and had her first day of school. To celebrate the occasion, we stopped by Frost for some ice cream.

The ice cream shop at 3429 E. Douglas recently reopened following a fire that forced them to close for months.

Selfishly, this gave us adults a chance to try the feature ice cream flavors Frost was advertising: burnt sugar praline and smoked white chocolate, which was smoked at Station 8 BBQ. There was a feature sundae called Lightning Sundae that included a scoop of both feature ice creams, toasted homemade marshmallow fluff and a lightning bolt sugar cookie on top. We ordered the special and holy s*&!%^#*, this was the best ice cream I’ve ever had in Wichita.

There was a smokiness that meshed so well in each bite. I wanted to scarf it down so fast but had to practice “sharing” in front of my daughter, which only allowed me half of it. Between that and the marshmallow fluff, it was a truly addicting treat that kept you coming back for more. The burnt sugar praline hit your taste buds the moment you opened your mouth. There was such a blast of flavor, I questioned if hell was even a real thing.

We followed that up with a slice of cherry berry pie and a double chocolate cake. I guess people have been raving about the cake, so I had to get it.

Both were delicious; the double chocolate cake was decadent, rich, but very moist, while the pie crust on the cherry berry was an instant hit with my taste buds. Remember that slice: cherry berry for later in the blog.

Everything was wonderful as usual at Frost. We loved it and to be honest, my daughter didn’t even take one bite. She left it up to the adults to eat.

Why?

Because she had her sights set on the other part of our memorable evening.

We picked up a new addition to our family after Frost. Meet Berry, our new hamster.
