Underrated Dish Alert: The burgers at Pig In Pig Out

Please hear me out on this one. Many people probably go to Pig In Pig Out for the BBQ and deservedly so.

But fans of their BBQ and burgers connoisseurs have to check out the burger specials that are offered at Pig In Pig Out.

Located at 1003 E. 13th St. N, the BBQ restaurant occasionally has different weekend specials and if you’re lucky, burgers can be found on Fridays and Saturdays.

One particular weekend, I dropped by because I heard they had a Pyro burger. My affection for spicy dishes has slowed down over the years due to me just getting older, but I had to give this one a try.

What’s a Pyro burger, you ask? (or perhaps didn’t)

It’s a 1/2lb house ground brisket patty that is smoked and then seared over oak coals but then topped with two slices of ghost pepper cheese, grilled onions and jalapeños, spicy pickles.  I can’t forget about the special recipe burger sauce that’s kicked up with the same smoked habanero mash used in Pig In Pig Out’s hot BBQ sauce.

When I stopped by, a single was $10 for a side and drink or $14 for a double. I opted for the double and didn’t look back. My side of choice was mac and cheese because I felt like ordering the heaviest meal possible to induce a long nap after finishing my meal.

The mac and cheese alone was heaven in a little dish; creamy, cheesy and everything one would want in a side.

But the burger was a million times better. The ground brisket patty was one of the most flavorful patties I’ve had from any restaurant in town. It was juicy and smoky, all while giving you just the right amount of heat that didn’t burn your taste buds.

I would honestly put this as one of the best burgers in town; easily top ten.
