Another trip to Gerardo’s Restaurant to try birria ramen

I don’t know why, but looking back through old reviews, it seems like I visit Gerardo’s Restaurant about once every two years. It’s probably because of the major influx of Mexican restaurants in town. I’ve always enjoyed Gerardo’s but with so many options in Wichita, I find myself going from place to place.

For my latest visit to Gerardo’s Restaurant, I went with the birria ramen. It’s a dish I love and haven’t had from this place before.

I ordered it to go and made sure to get a cup of consommé to go as well. I didn’t get a picture of the consommé as started sipping on it while driving home. Next thing I know, it’s gone. It’s probably one of my favorite 3–4 consommé in Wichita. It’s so hearty, bold, and flavorful. One of these days, I’ll have to try it for a hangover cure and see if it works.

When I arrived home from Gerardo’s, the ramen was split into two cups. One with the broth and meat and the other with the ramen noodles. After pouring both into one bowl, I let it sit for a while for the ramen to soak up the broth after mixing it around.

It took me all of 5–10 minutes to finish, as it was extremely delicious. There are a lot of birria ramen options around Wichita, and I’d probably put this in the top three for the broth alone, maybe second overall behind Chuyito’s Birrieria. I loved the amount of noodles and birria in my dish. It’d be hard to be hungry after this one.

Gerardo’s Restaurant is one of those underrated, sometimes off people’s radar establishments. The previous times I’ve been, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the food and need to make it a point to return there more than once every two years.

If you need more reasons to go, they have $1 taco Tuesdays.
