Visiting Sweet Thangz in Douglass, KS

Sweet Thangz

Sometimes, you never know what to expect when you visit small-town restaurants. While passing through Douglass, KS with local bloggers, The Kansas Gastronomist and Lets.Eat.ICT, we came across a nice surprise with Sweet Thangz.

The restaurant is located in a former nursing home, which was another thing I didn’t know about. As we drove up to the address, we had to drive around the building to eventually find Sweet Thangz.

It was pretty cool walking into Sweet Thangz. There were game machines, pool tables, televisions, and plenty of seating. You could tell it was a very family-friendly spot for the city of Douglass, KS.

The menu featured specialty burgers, sandwiches, loaded fries and chicken strips, along with desserts like bubble waffles.

Seeing as the specialty burgers were the most popular item, we ordered the Green Chili Burger and the Slap Yo Mama which included cheese, grilled onions, bacon, hot link and spicy BBQ.

When you talk about specialty burgers, Sweet Thangz delivered. These were not basic by any means. I love green chili and think Sweet Thangz version could have used a little more of it in theirs; I was hoping for more of that green chili kick in each bite. But the Slap Yo Mama, honestly made me consider slapping mine, it was so good. It was a hefty meal that was almost a workout attempting to eat it. There was so much going on and loads of flavor in every bite.

When it comes to souped up over the top burgers, Sweet Thangz’ Slap Yo Mama is definitely one to consider.

And we could not leave without a dessert. Despite The Kansas Gastronomists hurtful feelings about desserts (he’s not a fan of desserts), I ordered a S’mores bubble waffle. For starters, if you’ve never had a bubble waffle, you need to give it a try. It has a waffle like flavor, and comes in bite-sized pieces as you tear it apart one by one. Our bubble waffle was topped with all things S’mores. My daughter would have been jealous, as she considers marshmallows as one of the major food groups.

Sweet Thangz bubble waffles could easily be shared between 2–4 people. Maybe even five or six if you are stuffed from their specialty burgers.

All in all, a very cool addition for the city of Douglass, KS. Plus, the service and incredibly friendly, which was an added bonus.
