First look at Taqueria El Rojo, the mysterious food truck I can’t find anymore

Here’s our first look at Taqueria El Rojo, a Mexican food truck I randomly came across while driving around south Wichita.

I write this review, not knowing if they are even open anymore because the last couple of times I’ve passed by they weren’t there.

There’s no social media presence for the food truck so if anybody can help point me to them, that’d be great.

One Saturday evening, I was across at the corner of Pawnee & Broadway checking out a food truck. Then I saw some people across the street at another food truck I’ve never seen. After picking up my first order, I drove across the street where another truck was parked in between Subway and Advance Auto Parts at the southeast corner of Pawnee and Broadway that also has the Walmart.

The food truck was called Taqueria El Rojo. I asked how long they’ve been open and if they were on social media anywhere, but there was a bit of a language barrier which made it difficult to understand what he was telling me. I was a few hours short of a Spanish minor in college and instantly regretted it while I was in line.

The menu at Taqueria El Rojo consisted of tacos or tortas with either al pastor or asada. I went with the 5 al pastor tacos for $8. That also came with a drink.

It was cash only and took maybe 10-15 minutes or so. There were probably 10 other cars there waiting for food. Part of me wanted to knock on the other car doors to see how they found out about this truck.

Soon after, I received my tacos. You really can’t make it out in the picture, but there were tiny minced up pieces of pineapple mixed in with the al pastor. This gave each bite an additional kick of sweetness I really loved. The tacos were a little on the smaller side which made for a quick eat.

After I was done, I wanted to try them out again. So the following week, I drove out to order more, but they weren’t there. I also asked a friend who lived nearby to see if he could find them, and they were nowhere to be found.

So, readers, please help. If you know the whereabouts of Taqueria El Rojo, please let me know.
