Reviewing The Smoking Crab & Seafood Co On The Go

The Smoking Crab & Seafood Co On The Go

There’s a traveling seafood truck that has finally made its way to Wichita, The Smoking Crab & Seafood Co On The Go.

This food truck has multiple vehicles which seem to tour most of the Midwest. Typically, found driving around Texas, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma, The Smoking Crab has made Kansas stops in such cities like Fort Scott, Manhattan, Parsons, and El Dorado.

… And for a few short days, they can be found in Wichita, KS.

The Smoking Crab was parked at 2425 S Oliver Street in front of Money Town Pawn Shop Lot in south Wichita. When I arrived, there were about 10 people ahead of me either in line or waiting for their order.

The menu at The Smoking Crab consisted of pastas, crab and shrimp boils, gumbo and a fried menu of oysters, shrimp, and fish.

After glancing through the menu, I went with the fried shrimp pasta, the Smoking Crab Snow Crab and Shrimp combo which consisted of two crab clusters, 10 shrimp, 1 sausage, 1 corn, egg, and potatoes.

Then the seafood gumbo caught my eye, so I went with that as well.

Something to keep in mind is that it can take a while to order. Some people were waiting 20–40 minutes for orders. My order took 45 minutes from ordering to the point I picked it up.

Everything smelled so good and it got me excited.

First off the boil. All the shrimp and crab legs were piled on top of the potatoes and corn, which made them very soggy and mushy. I found the crab legs to be slightly underwhelming. Everything was overly salty, the crab legs were tough and stuck to the shells.

And to be frank, the pasta and gumbo were even more underwhelming. The gumbo didn’t have much flavor to it and the pasta had this off bitter taste to the sauce.

For the $90 I dropped, it just didn’t meet the expectations I had. So many good reviews, but it was just a letdown for me. I think of all the other places or even mobile vendors serving the same stuff and I had better experiences elsewhere.

The reviews I’m seeing from others in Wichita who have had it were positive, so perhaps my taste buds were off. You may like it, but it just wasn’t for me.

Be sure to follow them on Facebook to see when they’ll be out next.
