I was finally able to make it to JuhBa’s BBQ

JuhBa's BBQ

Persistence pays off. After five attempts, I was finally able to find JuhBa’s BBQ open one weekday afternoon.

I documented some of my previous attempts on another blog as it’s been challenging to find when the restaurant was open during their advertised hours. But my favorite teacher in the world, Mrs. Cox from Magdalen always taught me, at first, you don’t succeed, try, try, try, try, try again. Six visits in, I was finally able to get my hands on JuhBa’s BBQ!

First off, I want to say, please never judge a book by its cover. On my last social post on JuhBa’s BBQ, so many people were quick to judge the appearance of the building. Let me be the first to say that some of the best food I’ve had in Wichita or anywhere have come from buildings that looked similar in nature.

With that said, JuhBa’s BBQ is drive-thru only. There’s no intercom system to order from. You just drive up to the window until you see this sign, decide what you want and order.

JuhBa's BBQ

I’ve read the most popular item on the menu was popcorn ribs, but they were out that day, so I had to call an audible and order something else. With not much else to choose from, I went with the ribs and meatloaf and at the recommendation of the nice gal working that afternoon, my sides  were the mac & cheese and baked beans.

Not long after, I had my order in hand and made my way home.

My meal began with the sides, which weren’t too bad. While they were nothing to write home about, I did enjoy the simplicity of them.

But like any BBQ restaurant, the true test came down to the meats. Starting off with the smoked meatloaf, I’m not sure meatloaf would be the right comparison. Yes, it was savory, rich, and meaty. Buuuut, it had the texture of a hamburger steak. I like meatloaf, especially when it’s extremely juicy and this wasn’t it. And I was hoping for any additional flavor like some herbs or smokiness…. something. This was really just a slightly seasoned hamburger, but I did enjoy the sweet BBQ sauce drizzled over the top; more of that would have been great.

Moving on to the ribs, unfortunately they didn’t do it for me. The ribs required a LOT of tug to come off the bone. Not a gentle tug, but a lot of tug… like you may need some pliers. And to be quite honest, I found them to be quite flavorless.

I really wish the popcorn ribs were on the menu that day given everything I’ve been hearing about them.

Unfortunately, there were more misses than hits for me at JuhBa’s BBQ.

The most valuable lesson though after my visit is, never give up. If you are trying to accomplish something like reviewing a restaurant, never give up. If you think a restaurant is closed, keep trying and it’ll happen.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
