Ruben’s Mexican Grill Review

Ruben's Mexican Grill

In my quest to visit every locally owned restaurant in Wichita, there’s one place in Delano I’ve been wanting to try for some time. Ruben’s Mexican Grill has been high on our list of places to visit and I can now cross this one off the list.

There was a big group who joined me for this review including the owners of The Room Wichita making their first appearance on this blog as reviewers. The vibe inside was bright and vibrant fitting the theme of many Tex-Mex restaurants in town.

Everybody was given complimentary chips and salsa to start our dinner. Mild and hot options were available. Don’t be scared of the hot though as not a single person found it to be too spicy. There’s little if any heat in either option; still not a bad salsa though.

For dinner, everybody ordered a little something different. Since I was too busy chatting it up with everybody, I didn’t get a chance to get the actual names of each dish so you’ll have to settle for the pictures.

The particular dish I had was the Camarones a la Diabla which featured shrimp cooked with Chipotle sauce and served with beans and rice. While it was a smaller portion size for the price, it was certainly delicious and a dish I devoured quickly. The Chipotle sauce offered a tremendous amount of flavor that I loved. I didn’t know what to expect from Ruben’s but was pleasantly surprised with it.

Of the seven dishes ordered, two people in our group found their meals to be a little dry. Particularly the chicken inside the enchilada. The remaining five dishes were all more positively received. For final opinions, everybody was a little mixed on feeling ok to very pleased with Ruben’s.

The one area nobody had bad opinions on was the service. Everyone there was fantastic. Refills were never an issue, the time to get our meal was great, and our server did a great job with everything.

I can see Ruben’s drawing mixed opinions depending on who you ask and the type of Mexican food they prefer. For me, I had no issues with it and would certainly go again. What do you think? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below.
