While driving down 13th street, I noticed there was a new sign out in front of the former Valerie’s Wings and Things which would also later be renamed to Wings and Things. Come to find out, a new restaurant opened back on April 2 with new ownership and a slight name change. Introducing the topic of our latest review: Pam’s Wings with Things.

Pam’s Wings with Things specializes in chicken wings and we made sure to order some on our visit. We asked what was the difference between Pam’s versus Valerie’s or Wings and Things in general and were told, “We are the original”. Looking at their menu, they boasts themselves as ‘The REAL Wings & Things’. All the name variations and ownership changes can get a little confusing so we’ll stick to reviewing the food.
For lunch we ordered a variety of wings with different sauces along with fried fish. They were completely out of coleslaw and potato salad so we were left ordering all fried sides: fries, okra, onion rings and jalapeno poppers.
Of all the wings everybody had, our favorite was with the sweet heat sauce. It was just as advertised with sweet flavor followed by a nice kick of heat. The wings were fried well and offered plenty of meat. We thoroughly enjoyed them. The jalapeno poppers were also great and the only one of the sides that we finished. The catfish on the other hand was alright; too salty and way too much seasoning for my preference. Had they taken it a step back, it would have been much better. One of my buddies loved the onion rings but those came out much later and we were too full to finish those.
The true star of our lunch though was the sweet heat wings and worthy of a return visit.
Having been to Wings and Things on east Central over the past year, we’ve noticed a significant decrease in quality. So Pam’s Wings with Things definitely made up for it. Given all the turmoil in the “wings and things” brand of restaurants with ownership changes, closings and new businesses, we are a little skeptical on how long these restaurants will stay open. But we wish them the best and hope at least one of them can remain open.
Here’s their menu.
Happy Dining,
Eddy
