Earlier this year a retail store in Andover, KS converted to a coffee shop and cafe. While they still kept some merchandise on hand, they changed much of their focus to food. That right there was enough to catch our attention. Our latest visit brought us to The Rusted Rooster.

Something to keep remember before you keep reading. They will be expanding their hours sometime in the new year, we will be sure to give you a heads up when that happens and update this blog.
First thing we noticed once we stepped inside The Rusted Rooster was how cute, quaint, relaxing and cozy the place felt. This is the type of cafe, you could bring your family and friends to and spend hours chitchatting over a few drinks or spend an hour playing boardgames while dining on some sandwiches.
The Rusted Rooster has a full drink menu of hot and cold drinks. A majority of the food menu consists of breakfast items, sandwiches and salads. We opted for lunch and went with the Trojan Turkey and the Jaguar Jack. We loved the play on names of the sandwiches and the use of both high school’s mascots. I also ordered one of their holiday drinks, The Grinch, since I was feeling festive.
We loved the simplicity yet sophistication of the sandwiches. While basic by appearance, it was loaded and full of flavor. The Trojan Turkey included sliced turkey, cream cheese, bacon, tomato, avocado and mozzarella. Then it had a drizzle of zesty Italian dressing which gave the sandwich a vibrant kick and really elevated the avocado and cream cheese. The Jaguar Jack was also another solid option which had grilled chicken, jalapeno cream cheese, cheddar cheese and bacon on toasted sourdough. It was almost like a souped up grilled cheese sandwich taken to a whole new level.
It was a fantastic lunch stop for us and one we will certainly go back to again. I was told we need to try their breakfast items next time.
The service was spot on. If you’re ever worried about long lunches, the Rusted Rooster will alleviate those issues. We received our food in a very timely manner. Add this cafe to your list, you’ll love it!
