Let’s review Five Guys Burgers & Fries!
Five Guys Burgers & Fries is an American fast casual chain focused on burgers, hot dogs and fries. They were founded 34 years ago in Arlington, VA. After they started franchising in 2003, the chain has ballooned to over 1,500 locations worldwide. Wichita has 3 of those locations: one downtown on east Douglas, out west on north Maize and in northeast Wichita at 29th & Rock.
For the purposes of this review, I stopped by the downtown location. There were 15 toppings and sauces to choose from that allowed me to design my burger how I liked at no additional charge. They had mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, green peppers, grilled onions, hot sauce, ketchup, mustard, onions, relish, grilled mushrooms, A-1 steak sauce, Bar-B-Que sauce, and jalapeƱo peppers.
To make ordering easier, they also had an “All The Way” option which consisted of mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, grilled onions and mustard which I went with.
The fries came in Five Guys style (salted) or Cajun style. I, of course, went with the Cajun style. Between a single burger and small fries, it was $9.28 plus tax.
While my order was being prepared, they had complimentary roasted in-shell peanuts for all dine-in customers.
Something to note, they have two burgers sizes: Regular which comes with two patties and Little which has one.
The burger came out really juicy, greasy and flavorful. Compared to other burger chains, it was definitely one of the greasier options out there which isn’t a bad thing if it’s what you’re looking for. When I’m eating a burger, I’m all about going all out and getting something as unhealthy as possible. If you’re going to cross the line, might as well go all the way right?
Those people who love seasoned fries will really enjoy their Cajun style fries. Every fry had a major coating of Cajun seasoning. The fries were firm with a subtle crispy texture that I liked. Between that and the burger, I could hear my doctor’s voice telling me to stop. But the heart wants what the heart wants and it wanted to continue eating.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.
For my visit, the restaurant wasn’t all that clean. Many tables needed bussing which kind of went hand in hand with a comment an employee made to me about how nobody was doing their job and just hanging in the backroom.
The price could be a deterrent to some as there are so many great burger options in town for a quarter to half the price. But from a chain comparison, it’s probably one of the better ones in town.

Happy Dining,

The Five Guys at Rock and 29th is always great. I love their cheeseburger with grilled onions and mushrooms and nothing else. Their fries are great, but I like mine crispier. It is clean and the employees are friendly. We are never sorry when we pick up dinner there.
