Let’s review Spangles!
Spangles is a locally owned fast-food chain based here in Wichita. It was founded back in 1978 and has 27 locations throughout Kansas in cities like Wichita, Salina, Topeka, Emporia, Andover, Hutchinson, and more.
We decided to stop by the chain on Monday for their Monday Madness deal. They have 1/2 price burgers on Monday nights from 5-10pm. There are five burgers to choose from for this special.
My favorite burger at Spangles is the 1/3lb sourdough mushroom Swiss. It goes great when paired with some of my favorite fries in town.
The sourdough mushroom Swiss comes with an ooey gooey layer of cheese mixed in with a black Angus steakburger patty, tons of mushrooms and served on a butter toasted sourdough. It’s a very underrated fast food burger that at first glance looks like it could get soggy but holds up very well. To me, this burger is also a bit nostalgic. It was my first meal after my daughter was born. I remember walking across the street from Wesley to Spangles, ordering this burger and fries and making my way back to the hospital.
And how about those fries? Many people compare them to the fries at Barn’rds which are also some of my favorites in town. They are nice and crispy and have a nice coating of salt. There are times I’ve ordered a large cup to go as a meal itself.
Then one of the kids loves to order chicken tenders there.
And for people who are lactose intolerant like me, they have lactose-free desserts. I’m a huge fan of their tornado shakes but on my most recent stop, felt like I had to order a m-m-m-mudslide.
I understand Spangles has their detractors and it’s not for everyone but for me, I enjoy their food on the random occasions I’m in need of some fast food or a lactose-free dessert.
On the scale of clean good fast food chains in Wichita, Spangles is up there.
