New York City is the city that never sleeps. Before COVID-19 took place Walt’s East was the bar that never closes. They were open year round and has always been a popular stop for many locals on holidays. In my pre-dad life, Walt’s was a place I would visit frequently. Between the good food, chill atmosphere, fantastic wait staff, and Thursday night karaoke, it was always a great watering hole for me and my friends. We decided to meet back up and revisit one of our old classic stops.

Walt’s East is different from all the other Walt’s in town; it’s probably also the nicest from an aesthetics perspective as well.
The bar and grill is popular for their specials. On Monday, they have burgers for $6.99, Tuesday is meatloaf day, Thursday night is steak night but since our visit was on Wednesday, we had the homemade chicken and noodles. It’s a dish I’ve had so many times in my life. It’s chicken breast and egg noodles served over mashed potatoes and a buttermilk biscuits; the heartiest of dishes that is sure to put anybody to sleep when they get home.
I have fond memories of ordering this on a wintery Wednesday evening and crashing seconds within entering my front door.
We also had a big plate of onion rings shared at the table because after all sharing is caring. They were huge thick cut onion rings fried just right with a delicious batter.
The rest of the table ordered various burgers. We had the taco burger, a regular Walt’s burger and the island burger. Walt’s is highly underrated when it comes to burger talk and definitely towards the top of the ranking in terms of bar food. It starts with the buns which perfectly mold down to your fingers and the meat. The burger patties themselves are juicy and really flavorful.
Probably my favorite of all the burgers is the island burger. Perhaps it’s my love of pineapples on everything.
For bar food, Walt’s East is a slam dunk for quality. There’s a reason the bar and grill is packed often….. especially on Thursday night steak night. They offer a trio of great service, good food and affordable prices (especially on their specials).
….Oh yeah, it’s also a great place to share drinks with friends.
