Visiting Augusta to check out Miller’s Five Drive In

I love the small-town feel of a vintage looking restaurant. When I first came across Miller’s Five Drive In, I knew that would be a place I had to visit. It’s been described as a “fifties style carryout” restaurant and by the look of it, the place definitely had some character. Let’s check it out.

Miller’s Five Drive In is located in Augusta, KS on State Street. It’s towards the south end of the street past places like Bricks and Sugar Shane’s Cafe. Even though it has the word Drive In within the name, this is strictly a carryout restaurant. Don’t fret though as there were a handful of outdoor benches for seating where I enjoyed my meal.

I had no idea what to order and the menu was slightly hard to read. Eventually, I ended up ordering a deluxe burger, tater tots and a cherry limeade. Miller’s Five Drive In looked to be a two-person operation. One person taking orders and another person in the back cooking. Depending on how busy they are, it could take a little time on your order.

My deluxe burger came with everything on it besides cheese. It came on a picture perfect bun; the exact style I love most. The bread conformed to my fingers as I pressed down into the patty but kept the burger intact. The patty itself was on the thinner side but surprisingly juicy. Often times, I find the thinner patties to get dried out. Not here; it was fantastic. Mixed in with the pickles, mustard and onions, it was an awesome burger. It kind of resembled a Sport Burger but not as greasy.

I was this close to ordering a second burger to take home with me.

And the tater tots were also fried just right. I asked for ketchup but ended up not even using it.

Sometimes with the small-town restaurants, you don’t know what to expect. There’s always the big time love they get from the locals which is great. But sometimes, it can be a little bias. Well from someone that has never been to Millers before and no ties to the city of Augusta, Miller’s Five Drive In was amazing and exceeded every expectation I had. I loved it.

There’s a dessert shop I need to check out next time I’m in Augusta. When I do, I’ll be back again for another burger.

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
