Something new is set to arrive in Wichita this week. Tropical Smoothie Cafe which features smoothies made-to-order with quality ingredients, toasted flatbreads, wraps, sandwiches, quesadillas and bowls opens on Monday, October 11th but we have your first look inside.
I spoke to owner, Aaron Courtney, and he said, “We are so excited to bring this great concept to Wichita. We’ve been working on a plan to open a Tropical Smoothie Cafe since we bought Hurts Donuts in 2019. We’ve been overwhelmed by the support of the community over the last few years and we are really excited to introduce Wichita to another brand we love!”

Tropical Smoothie Cafe features a drive-thru at the south end of the strip center. Inside, there’s plenty of seating along with cool color tones on the wall.
All orders are placed at the counter where the staff takes your name and brings your order to you.
Since they are a smoothie shop by name, we started off with three smoothies.
- A Sunrise Sunset: strawberries, pineapple, mango and orange juice.
- Mango Magic: mango, pineapple, and non-fat yogurt
- Jetty Junior: strawberries & banana
The smoothies were 24 ounces while the kids one was 12 ounces. By all accounts, they were really good. Fresh was probably the thing that stuck out. It didn’t taste like a powdered smoothie. I had the mango one and it was probably the best mango smoothie I’ve had in town.
We tried an assortment of different items on the menu such as the Caribbean Jerk Chicken wrap, Chipotle Chicken Club flatbread, a kids classic grilled cheese and a peanut butter banana crunch flatbread.
Our favorite was the Caribbean Jerk Chicken wrap which was a mix of savory and sweet. The wrap was not your average one. It was stuffed with plenty of grilled chicken, rice, black beans, cheddar, and romaine. But what really sold it for us was the roasted pineapple salsa and jerk sauce which was incredibly flavorful. Having that mix of sweetness with a touch of spice was the perfect addition for the wrap.
The classic grilled cheese was devoured by my daughter. She was loving her smoothie and sandwich which made us thrilled as it’s rare that she will eat everything we put in front of her.
And as far as desserts go, please try the peanut butter banana crunch flatbread.
Despite being named Tropical Smoothie Cafe, the restaurant is more than just smoothies. While they do have some delicious ones made with fresh ingredients, there are plenty of good healthy options for those looking for wraps, salads and more.
