First Look at Jack’s North Hi Donuts

After years of ownership changes, Jack’s North Hi Carryout is no more. A new restaurant has taken its space. While the iconic sign has changed, owners did their best to keep the spirit of Jacks alive. Introducing Jack’s North Hi Donuts. Gone are the burgers and in are the donuts…. and ramen. Yes, you read that right. Ramen is also on the menu.

I dropped early in the morning to get some donuts. They had a huge selection of kolaches, donuts, cinnamon rolls, apple fritters and more available.

I asked about the ramen and they said that was also available all morning long. Ramen for breakfast? Why not? It was $5.49 for the ramen and took around 10 minutes to prepare. The bowl consisted of just the broth and noodles. There weren’t any protein options to include. It was about as basic of a bowl of ramen as you could get. While it was a warm, hearty dish to start my morning, I would have liked a little more to spruce it up. The owners asked for my opinion and that was exactly what I told them. They said they were still experimenting around since they just opened earlier that week, so things could be different in the future if you order some ramen.

I picked up four donuts to go and took them home to share with everyone. My daughter scarfed up the glazed donut in minutes. (She loves her sweets).

The remaining donuts were all delicious. I was partial to the Bavarian cream donut. There was a perfect ratio of donut to cream filling. As far as donuts go, you either like them or you don’t, and fortunately for us, we thought they were great.

A family of three was running Jack’s when I dropped by, and they were as friendly as they come. They engaged with every customer and showed lots of appreciation anybody who walked in their doors.

Here’s their menu.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
