FIrst Look at La Sufrida Mexican Grill

The latest restaurant to open in town is La Sufrida Mexican Grill at 3827 W. 13th St. N. in the former Los Cabos Cantina & Grill space. Two cool things they hope to lure diners in with that add to the experience include fresh table side guacamole along with drinks made right at your table. I love experiencing different things at restaurants so we dropped in to give them a try.

I brought the entire family out for a weekend dinner, where things began with complimentary chips and salsa. The kids love queso, so we made sure to place an order for that as well. Both were solid options.

I came strictly for the live drinks. So, I ordered a mojito. It’s similarly done to live guacamole, where they show up to your table and prepare it there for you. They also made a blueish type lemonade for our daughter, who came with a duck on top that my daughter could not stop playing with. Needless to say, she was a fan of any sweet drink, and I, of course, was digging my mojito.

For dinner, we had a chimichanga, chili verde platter and birria platter.

My choice was the birria platter, which came with consomme. I’m not quite sure if it was the best option to have on a day when it felt like 100 degrees, but I was very pleased with my meal. The birria was tender, the broth was very flavorful, and they had some excellent rice to go along with it.

There were nearly happy plates all around, which was a good sign. Upon asking everyone what they thought afterward, they were all pleased with their meals and would consider going again.

It was a good family meal filled with good food, service, and talk about what we’d do if we won the lottery. Alas, none of us did, but we were all together, so that was a win in our books.
