Checking out the breakfast at Oasis Lounge

While I’ve had plenty of shots and burgers at Oasis Lounge, one thing I haven’t had there is breakfast. It’s been on my list of things to do at the west side bar who serves breakfast daily at 6 a.m. (along with drinks thanks to the change in liquor laws). It’s one of the few places in Wichita to get a full breakfast menu and access to a full bar every day of the week.

Breakfast is served daily from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The menu featured a list of classic American staples.

After asking my server for suggestions on what to order, I went with The Hangover Helper Nachos. I figured that’d be the perfect meal to cure my current hangover which wasn’t necessarily alcohol induced, but “Hey dad, let me wake up at 3 a.m. crying because I want to watch Dora the Explorer” induced.

And because I do it everywhere, I ordered some biscuits and gravy.

The nachos included tortilla chips topped with ground sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, nacho cheese, onion, tomatoes, chopped bacon, with jalapenos, sour cream and homemade salsa on the side. Little to my knowledge, the nachos weighed about as much as the reason for my hangover. It was a hefty plate and way way way way way too much for just one person.

This was like a kitchen sink of breakfast food all thrown onto a platter with chips. I loved the inclusion of ground sausage, hash browns and egg. About a quarter of the way through, I was already getting full. It was delicious and exactly what I needed to encourage me to get a power nap later. My only gripe about the nachos, though, were the chips. They broke apart incredibly too easy and forced me at times to use a fork. I would have preferred a sturdier chip, but using a fork didn’t kill me.

The biscuits and gravy were a nice compliment to the nachos. Compared to other places around town, I’d say it was above average. The best part was easily the sausage gravy. If you throw in tons of sausage into your gravy, you have my heart.

While Oasis Lounge is very popular for their burgers, don’t hesitate to give their breakfast a try.
